The City of La Crosse's fall leaf season opens Monday, Oct. 26, and is scheduled to wrap up Friday, Nov. 20, weather permitting. The city expects the work to take four to six weeks in all.

Crews hope to get through each neighborhood as many as four times during the season. An online leaf map on the city website lets residents check where crews are working and when their street was last cleared.

Leaves need to sit on the boulevard, no more than three feet from the curb. The city will not take leaves that are bagged, covered, sitting on tarps, or mixed with brush or dirt, and piles should not be placed in the street, in a gutter, over a storm drain, or around trees and poles.

Residents are also asked not to park in front of leaf piles, since that slows the trucks down.

Separate drop-off sites open for the season by the end of the day Friday, Oct. 23, and are marked with orange fencing. They include spots on Hummingbird Road, at the south end of Veterans Freedom Park, at Isle La Plume, at Bennett and 16th streets, at the Shelby Ball Field lot, and at the east end of Sunnyside Drive. Myrick Park is no longer used as a drop-off site.
