Luther High School in Onalaska won its volleyball match against Arcadia on Tuesday, Oct. 13, in three sets, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-23.

After the match, the school found that a player recovering from a knee injury had taken part before being cleared as eligible. The player, who is expected to miss the season, served the opening point and then left the match. School officials said coaches had intended to give the player a brief moment on the court.

Luther reported the problem itself to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. Athletic director Dan Unke confirmed the school was then required to forfeit the contest to Arcadia.

The forfeit changes Luther's Coulee Conference record to 9-2 and gives the win to Arcadia. It also removes Luther's chance to play for a share of the conference title.

Luther's match against first-place West Salem on Thursday, Oct. 15, is still scheduled to be played. The school said the forfeit does not affect its eligibility for the postseason.
