Wisconsin's new Southeast Regional Care Center for Youth is at 7930 W. Clinton Ave. in Milwaukee. The $65.6 million center is expected to receive its first residents in early November.

The center will house up to 32 boys from southeastern Wisconsin. Gov. Tony Evers toured the site on Oct. 14.

Inside are classrooms, counseling space, a gym, and areas for job training and other skill-building, along with medical services.

State officials describe the center as part of a shift toward smaller facilities closer to home, focused on education, treatment and rehabilitation alongside accountability.

Staff highlighted mentorship as a central part of the work, with counselors and a psychological associate among those preparing to work with residents.
