Mayor Cory Mason has proposed a 2027 Racine police budget with $2.5 million for overtime, an increase of about $1 million. The department's total General Fund budget would be $39.2 million, up $2.3 million.
City figures list 196 authorized sworn positions, with 183 people currently employed. Calls for service rose to 51,228 from 45,738 in the prior period, while nonfatal shootings fell 42 percent in 2025.
The plan would move two positions from traffic investigation to standard officer roles. It would also cut $75,000 that had been set aside for Flock cameras, while keeping the city's multi-year Axon technology agreement.
A public budget hearing was scheduled for Oct. 14, with amendment talks on Oct. 19 and a final adoption vote on Oct. 20.
