Cancer patients and recent survivors can apply during October for free personal training at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex through its Living Well Scholarship.

The scholarship, offered as part of the Haribo Scholarship Program, is open to the first 10 qualified applicants. A RecPlex membership is not required.

Eligibility covers people who are currently in cancer treatment or who finished treatment within the past year. A physician's clearance is required to take part.

Those selected will receive eight one-hour sessions that mix cardiovascular, strength and flexibility work. The training is tailored to each person, with the aim of helping them start or return to regular exercise and build energy, strength and endurance.

RecPlex operations superintendent Sandy Wiedmeyer said the program is tied to cancer awareness months and has helped many survivors in recent years. Applications are open through Saturday, Oct. 31, on the RecPlex website.
