Saint Mary's Athletics welcomed 150 fourth-grade students from Winona Public Schools to campus for its first Fastenal Youth Sports Day.

The event was sponsored by Saint Mary's athletics and Fastenal. Students rotated through stations set up across Saint Mary's athletic facilities.

At each station, Cardinal student-athletes and coaches led mini games and activities representing the university's athletic programs.

Athletics director Brian Sisson said the university was honored to partner with Fastenal, which supports the community, and that Saint Mary's looks forward to growing the event in coming years.

Katie Walski, a marketing strategist at Fastenal, said the goal was to inspire kids to stay active and help them discover an activity they enjoy, noting that every child deserves a chance to experience the benefits of sports and physical activity.

Organizers said the day gave younger students a firsthand look at college athletics while giving Saint Mary's student-athletes a chance to serve as role models in the Winona community.
